For this lab, my group and I came up with designs for wind turbines. Our goal was to get the most voltage we could from the blades at low, medium, and high wind speeds. We used manilla folders, wooden dowels, metal sheeting, duct tape, and masking tape to build our turbine blades. We created 3 different blades, one with manilla petals, one with manilla sails, and one with metal sails. We also adjusted the angles of the blades, whether we secured the blades on the inside or the outside, and if we used masking tape or duct tape. The results from our testing, revealed that the metal sails secured on the outside with duct tape worked the best. This was because the metal sails caught the most air and didn't let escape. The blades that we angled caught more air and were pushed around the axis. |
